In a discussion held by The Wahid Institute, Friday (17/6), Mahfud expecting the role of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as Indonesia's largest organization to participate actively to resolve the issue.
"Long time ago this nation was torn by a variety of issues, NU managed to take an important role. Now it raises radical Islamic groups, NU should take a role to overcome them. Therefore, to save the nation it relies on the strengthening of ideology, but now the implementation of that ideology is a threat, "said Mahfud.
The discussion are attended by several leaders; Hj. Sinta Nuriyah (a wife of Abdurrahman Wahid, the 4th President of RI), KH. Hasyim Muzadi (Former Chairman of NU), Yenny Wahid (Chairman of Indonesian People's Sovereignty Party), Khofifah Indar Parawansa (Chairman of Muslimat NU), Chairul Anam (chairman of the Ulema National Awakening Party), as well as dozens of activists attended NU.
In addition, Mahfud also talk about the reform. He said the reform did not change from authoritarian to democratic, but it changed from authoritarian to oligarchic. That is a political system where political decisions taken by the quorum by the political elites, and then it pollute among themselves. "Let's see every political decision is taken by political leaders who collaborate with other political leaders, people did not think about it," he explained.
Furthermore Mahfud said the political system led to an oligarchy; where political test and hostage each other. "How a House of Representatives (DPR) comes to be the light of truth violation of ethics, code of ethics, it is not legal but ethical," he explained.
The same thing also delivered by Yenni Wahid. According to her, so many NU cadres are on the political parties. They are even in strategic positions in government. However, not many who fight for the people's voice. "It must be an effort to revitalize the longer movements of both NU and the level structure of the cultural level,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Choirul Anam (chairman of the Ulema National Awakening Party) said in every day of his reflection, small political parties would be destroyed if the ruling parties could not keep the people's mandate.
