Petitioners Witness Uncovered Money Politic Practices

Jakarta, MKOnline - The Constitutional Court (The Court) held the second session for Demak election case, Monday (28/3). This session was to hear the information from Petitioners witnesses through video conference facility from Diponegoro University, Semarang.
 
The session led by Chairman of the Panel M. Akil Mochtar was dominated by information from Petitioners’ witnesses stating about money politics practices done a day prior to the election (March 6, 2011) by candidate pair 1 (Tafta Zani-Dachirin). Meanwhile some other witnesses claimed only hearing, seeing, or being told by other people.
 
Bardan, a witness who admitted to receive some amount of money in order to win Tafta Zani-Dachirin pair said that he was given twenty thousand rupiah for two persons. Another person who had a right on the money was his wife. The money itself was given by the head of local Neighborhood Unit, Harjono. “It was given on the fifth (of March) at a half past five in the afternoon to choose candidate 1. Still, the next day I chose candidate 3,” told Bardan who said that the money had all been used.

Another witness who claimed to receive the money was Jamil, a resident of the same village and district as Bardan. He told that on his way home, his wife said to have received 10 thousand rupiah from a man named Marjuki with a message that on the election day, Jamil and his wife were expected to choose candidate 1.

Meanwhile, one of the Petitioners’ witnesses who claimed to witness the money politic practices was Nurhasyim, a resident of Mrisen Village, Wonosalam District. He who at that time visited the house of Munoko saw a man named Mudi handed out some money to Munoko. It was given a day before the polling day, on March 5, 2011.

Another witness who claimed to hear about the money politic practices was Muhammad Sutiyo, a resident of Tanggul Village, in Wijen District. He was told by his son named Nukin that he had received 30 thousand rupiahs from Abdul Ghofur. The money was then divided to Sutiyo’s six children.

Besides the money, Sutiyo’s kids were also given a dummy of paper containing a picture and number of a candidate pair. After that the kids were asked to vote for candidate 1.

As previously informed, Demak Election Commission had set Tafta Zani – Moch. Dachirin Said as the winner with 377.644 votes or 74,38 percent of the total number of  voters. This victory was then claimed and brought to The Court by candidate pair Sa’idah-Haryanto (Petitioners I) and Moch. Najib-Siti Azzah (Petitioners II) (Yusti Nurul Agustin/mh/YDJ)
