Sukarsa, S.H, M.H, and Dean of Faculty of Law Hasanuddin University, represented by Head of Administration Unit Kasman Abdullah signed Memorandum of Understanding related to implementation of Constitution Debate Contest Year 2011, Saturday (4/3).
Jakarta, MKOnline - Constitutional Court which was born form reformation needs to be known by society. Various means were used but Constitutional Court is constantly socializing the amendment of constitution and developing constitution awareness culture. Constitution as supreme law needs to be known by entire society particularly in academic community.
Academic community is the pillar of knowledge development. For its reason the existence is a significant point to encourage and enhance the student’s ability in explaining the amendments.
In order of above matter and to develop constructive dissent tradition, this year Constitutional Court held “Constitution Debat Contest among Universities in Indonesia Year 2011” together with Faculty of Law of Universities ini Indonesia. Year 2011 would be the fourth year of the contest. In 2010, Constitution Debate Contest was held with participants form 64 universities whereas this year is going to held with participants from 96 universities.
Constitution Debate Contest Year 2011 is divided into two phase, regional phase as a selection to national phase and national phase which the participants are the semifinalist of Regional Constitution Debate Contest Year 2011. The theme will be around interesting issues regarding Constitutional Court, law and state law.
Participants are divided into six regionals, which was divided into five regionals last year. Regional I is Sumatera area, will be held in Andalas University, Padang. Regional II is DKI Jakarta area, will be held in Indonesia University, Jakarta. Regional III is West Java, Banten and Borneo areas, will be held in Padjadjaran University, Bandung. Regional IV is Central Java and Yogyakarta areas, will be held in Diponegoro University, Semarang. Regional V is East Java, Bali, NTT and NTB, will be held in Airlangga University, Surabaya. Regional VI is Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku and Papua, will be held in Hasanuddin University, Makassar.
Regional Constitution Debate Contest will be held on June 3-9, 2011 in each regional, will compete in national phase to win 1st and 2nd place.
The Memorandum of Understanding had been signed by Constitutional Court and Dean of Faculty of Law from university regional organizer, Saturday (5/3) in Jakarta. The ceremony was attended by Dean of Faculty of Law University of Indonesia Prof. Safri Nugraha, Dean of Faculty of Law Airlangga University Prof. Muh. Zaidun, Dean of Faculty of Law Andalas University Prof. Yuliandri, Dean of Faculty of Law Padjajaran University, represented by Assistant Dean Dadang E. Sukarsa, S.H, M.H, Dean of Faculty of Law Hasanuddin University, represented by Head of Administration Unit Kasman Abdullah and Dean of Faculty of Law Diponegoro University represented by Assistant Dean Untung Dwi, S.H., M.H. Also attended by Secretary General of Constitutional Court Janedjri M. Gaffar, Prof. Saldi Isra, Dr. Kurnia Warman and Dr. Moh. Ali Syafaat.
“As state institution who has authority to review constitutional case, it has become Court’s commitment to obtain the responsibility in developing constitution awareness culture throughout various activities, such as research. In 2011, Court will conduct research related to doctoral programme student, Court also helps doctoral programme student in relation to their study about the Court and state law which are advantageous for Court in constitution development. For 2011 a range of activities will be held in order to develop constituion awareness culture and to enhance Court socialization. Moreover, partnership with universities in symposium and else” said Janedjri.
The remarkable thing is that the participants of the contest are not limited to those who have law background only. The entire students from any major may possibly enroll the contest, including university who has faculty of law or faculty of sharia.
The participants will argue in front of jury from numerous background; academics, experts, national figures and the amendment performers. (Miftakhul Huda/Sylvia)
