Suswono, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, visited the Court to consult about the implementation of the Courtâs decision in relation to the judicial review of Law Number 18 Year 2009 regarding Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, on Tuesday morning (28/9) in the delegation room of the Court Building.
Jakarta, MKOnline - Suswono, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, visited the Court to consult about the implementation of Constitutional Court Decision Number 137/PUU-VII/2009 regarding Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Tuesday morning (28/9) in the delegation room of the Court Building. In such decision, the Court granted the Petitioner’s petition in part.
Suswono, the Minister of Agriculture, together with his staff were welcomed by Moh. Mahfud MD, the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court, accompanied by Constitutional Court Justice Muhammad Alim. Among the guests were Tjapi Sujana, the Director General for Animal Husbandry, Supratomo, the Head of Legal and Public Relations Bureau and Cahyo Damirin, the Head of Legal Agreements and Assistance Division.
According to Suswono, the Court’s decision has an implication on Indonesia’s position in relation to the international convention and its relationship with fellow countries of cattle importer-exporter. “We have been protested by Brazil. How should be respond?” he asked Mahfud and Alim.
In response to the issue, Mahfud stated that the debate on the international convention and the stance of Indonesia have been discussed internally by the Constitutional Court Justices during the formulation of such decision. “We have discussed the issue. It was already the debate at the Justices Deliberation Meeting (Rapat Pemusyawaratan Hakim or RPH),” he said.
In order to provide clarification and legal certainty with regard to such issue, according to Mahfud, the Court will make an official letter of statement to the Ministry of Agriculture to explain several “confusions” in relation to the implication of the decision. “We will make a rather formal statement. The Registrar will compose it later. What is certain, however, is that this issue has become our attention. As with the formulations, we will elaborate them in the letter,” he explained. (Dodi/Koen)
