JTV Presenter, Festine Rohrich (left), laughed as she interviewed Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Moh. Mahfud MD, who had just casted news in Javanese Language for “Pojok Kampung” program at JTV studio, Surabaya.

Mahfud, a Madura-born national figure, was considered to inspire many people by his efforts as the Chief Justice of The Court providing breakthroughs in law in Indonesia.

“What Pak Mahfud has made in the Court by bringing forth substantial justice and people’s sense of justice has given hope on law enforcement in Indonesia. And this makes us proud as East Java citizens,” remarked President Director of JTV, Ali Murtadlo, during his speech.

Newscaster

Besides receiving the honor, Mahfud was also requested to be a newscaster for the “Pojok Kampung” program at the same station. On the program broadcasted live, Mahfud casted two reports in Javanese language. Before performing in front of the camera, acting as if a professional newscaster, Mahfud also tried to memorize the text he was going to present.

“Compared to reading the verdict at The Court in a court session, casting news on television is more difficult to do because it has to be quick and it is limited by time,” Mahfud said when he was asked to tell his feeling after presenting the news. It was a witty remark that put a laugh on everybody watching the unusual occasion. (ard/YDJ tr.)
