Chief Justice: Constitution also Basic Foundation for Regional Development Program

East Java, MKOnline- After the opening of Suramadu Bridge, economic growth in Madura area has become more dynamic. The impact of the bridge is seen by the Madura people as a challenge to develop their region.

Responding to that, Government of Bangkalan Regency held a National Seminar on “Mari Bersama Membangun Madura” (together developing Madura) at Pendopo Raden Pranatu Hall (31/10), attended by Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, Sumenep Regents as well as people’s figures, students and people’s organization in Madura.

In the seminar, Chief Justice of The Court, Moh Mahfud MD, gave a speech in his position as a keynote speaker. In that opportunity, Mahfud explained about Accelerating the Development of Madura within National Development Constellation. ”After the existence of Suramadu Bridge, we can not avoid the industrialization impacts as well as influences from outside. This is the fact. Then we have to prepare on how to lead the facts which will be exposed later in this seminar," explained Mahfud.

Mahfud continued, with the existence of Suramadu Bridge, there would be several implications, among others; Madura would interest people from outside to make investment in industry.

Besides giving a keynote speech in the National Seminar in Bangkalan Madura, the Chief Justice also attended a seminar for Constitutional and Administrative Law Lecturers throughout East Java. The event taking constitution as a foundation in conducting development in East Java as the theme was held in a hotel in Surabaya, (02/11).

In front of the lecturers, Mahfud MD explained about the regional development program as a reflection of the Constitution. ”The Constitution we are talking about is the amended one, which resulted on the birth of some new state institutions, among others is the Constitutional Court and the City Council, and the result of the constitutional amendment has to be accepted by all people,” he pointed out.

Mahfud also expected that the seminar would result in the general understanding of the constitution as a ground to conduct a regional development program, especially in East Java. (Kusnul Khuluq/YDJ tr.)
