BANDUNG – Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD, said that independent Presidential Candidates had better be issued in 2013 Presidential Election.

"I hope the government would review the stipulation about independent presidential candidates. If it is issued in the 2009 election, there will be no amendment of the 1945 Constitution binding that matter," explained Mahfud to the press in Horison Hotel, Bandung, Thursday (28/8/2008).

He added that in amending the 1945 Constitution, it took about four years time. Because this was not an open delegation but a closed one. It also includes the settling independent candidates.

Institution like University academicians and others were expected by Mahfud to give hand in studying deeper about the independent candidacy.

"The solution is that in 2009 Presidential Election, independent candidate had better move closer to political parties, and in 2013 we hope that there will be a system regulating the independent candidacy," he added.(teb)
