ON JOB TRAINING OF PEOPLE LEGAL AID VISIT COURT

Constitutional Court received the visit from 21 students from various, domestic and foreign, universities on Wednesday (9/7), at the Court’s building. The students were the participant of the On the Job program at the People Legal Aid, Jakarta. The visit was welcomed by Constitution Justice Prof. HAS Natabaya, S.H., LL.M. and accompanied by the Head of Case and Court Administration Bureau of the Constitutional Court, Kasianur Sidauruk.

According to the Manager of the Legal Aid, Ricky Gunawan, the visit was conducted so that the students could actively participate in law empowering to the people also get the information or picture about the Constitutional Court and its procedural law.

In that occasion, Natabaya explained the students the history of the Court also the settlement process of disputes seen from the procedural law. Besides that, Natabaya also explained the authorities and the obligation of the Court.

The Constitutional Court authorities included the judicial review, settling disputes over the general election result, and the dissolution of political parties. Besides that, the Constitutional Court also had the obligation to give opinion on the suspicion of constitutional violation committed by President or Vice President.

“We wished that the obligation will never be assessed. Because in other countries, this obligation have never tried. So, if we ask a German Constitution Justice about the impeachment procedural law, they can not anwer that because they do not have the experience,” explained Natabaya.

Constitutional Court Monitoring Institution

Answering a question from a female student about an institution to monitor the Constitutional Court, Natabaya said that wherever in this world there was no such institution with the authority to do the supervising on justices or judges. Because of that, according to Natabaya, only their hearts that became the control device for the judges.

“The Judicial Commission only supervises the implementation of judges code of conduct, that is only for the judges in the general courts, not the Constitution Justices. Meanwhile the decision of the justices should never be influenced by anyone,” added the man who actually did not have the ambition as a judge.
