SGU STUDENTS STUDY THE CONSTITUTION

Law and constitution are parts of Laws scope. But, it does not mean that people who come from non-Laws discipline are forbidden to study about it. It was proven by hundreds students of Swiss German University (SGU) students from any disciplines, such as Administration Business, Information Technology, Hotel Management, Mecha-tronic, and Life Science, who joined a general class themed Law and the Constitution in the Constitutional Court Building, Thursday (4/24).

Not by half, the speaker of the general class was the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, , Jimly Asshiddiqie, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court, Janedjri M Gaffar, and the Dean of Information Technology Department, Marsudi Kisworo.

In his explanation, Jimly described that the function of Constitutional Court were as the guardian of the constitution, the controller of the democracy, the protector of citizens constitutional rights as well as human rights, and as the interpreter of the constitution.

Related to its function as a the controller of the democracy, Jimly stated that majoritys opinion in the parliament did not always contain the truth and the constitutional fairness. The truth and the constitutional fairness might be there in the minority side.”So that we need an institution like the constitutional court who is assigned to do the judicial review made by parliament, so the parliament would not be cruel,”he stated.
