JAKARTA ââ¬â Indonesian Coalition for Independent Candidacy (KCPSI) demanded that Regional Election (Pilkada) to be moved to October 2008. The demand was to accomodate the possibility for independent candidates to take part in governor election in many areas.
The protest made by KCPSI was attended by several members of representatives from Bali, East Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan and Timika in General Election Commission Jakarta, yesterday. Advisor of the National Commission for Independent Regional Election, Fadjrul Rahman said that, there were three demands that became the important notions in this problem.
First, the demand for Pilkada to be moved to October. Second, the demand to cancel the routing letter issued by Ramelan Surbakti about the controversy in independent candidacy. Third, the demand that the decree about the moving of Pilkada to October immediately issued.
A Member of General Election Commission, I Gusti Putu Artha, who welcomed the demonstrator said, the General Election would discuss this problem. However, before the meeting his side would make a coordination with the Department of Home Affair as one of the related parties in this problem. He expected that the government would provide legal protection for the Pilkada event in several areas which currently holding the event.
for independent candidates, Putu Artha, explained that there were some requirements set by the new and revised Act on Regional Government which were about attaining the 3.5 to 6 percent support prior to the density number of people in each area. (har)
