For the sake of avoiding different interpretation towards the Act No. 32/2004 on Regional Government (Act on Regional Government), especially in relation to the settelement of regional election disputes and the general election disputes, Commission for General Election (KPU) held a visit to the Constitutional Court on Wednesday (19/3).
The visit lead by the Head of the Commission, Abdul Hafiz Anshary, was welcomed by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Vice Chief Justice, and other Constitution Justices.
In the meeting, the Commission had a consultation with the Constitutional Court regarding the result of the partial revision on Act of Regional Government by the Parliament that planned to divert the settlement of disputes over Regional Election result to the Constitutional Court. Before, the Act regulated that disputes over regional election to be settled in the Supreme Court.
ââ¬ÅThe Commission for General Election as the Organizer of the general election and the Constitutional Court should consult to have the same perception on the regulation of general election,ââ¬Â said the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Jimly Ashiddiqie, to the press after the meeting. In the meeting, said Jimly, the Constitutional Court also asked the Commission with the staff in the regions to prepare themselves to have their cases in the Constitutional Court.
The meeting was also used by the Commission to have a coordination with the Constitutional Court in the effort to prepare for the general election event on 2009. ââ¬ÅWe also asked the Constitutional Courtââ¬â¢s view regarding the completion of the Act of General Election talks by the Parliament. For that, we (The Commission for General Election and the Constitutional Court-ed) agreed to have further coordination involving regional commissions in Indonesia,ââ¬Â said the Head of General Election Commission, Abdul Hafiz Anshary.
