Indonesian Society of International Law (ISIL) in cooperation with the Secretary General and Clerical of the Constitutional Court held the ââ¬ÅIndonesian Constitutional Court National Rounds of The 2008 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitionââ¬Â, from Friday (8/2) until Sunday 10/2) at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta.
This competition was a simulation of the procedure in the international court conducted by students of Law Faculty as an effort to sharpen their abilities and skills in the field of International Court Procedural Law.
The competition was joined by 20 teams from universities throughout Indonesia (state and privated Universities). Some of the participating universities are Airlangga University, Andalas University, Atma Jaya Catholic University, Bhayangkara University, Borobudur University, Brawijaya University, Indonesian De La Salle University, Hasanuddin University, Indonesian Islamic University, Manado State University, Padjadjaran University, Parahyangan Catholic University, Tarumanegara University, Trisakti University, Indonesian Al Azhar University, University of Indonesia, Batam International University, Pelita Harapan University, North Sumatra University, and Surabaya University.
They were competing to get the Awards of The Indonesian Constitutional Court National Rounds, among others were Best Team Award, Mochtar Kusumaatmaja Award, for the First Runner-Up, Hassan Wirajuda Award for the Second Runner-Up, and The Best Oralist was given the Ali Alatas Award. The 20 teams had struggled for a place in Semifinals and Final on Sunday (10/2) at 13.00 Western Indonesia Time in the Panel and Plenary Court Rooms of the Constitutional Court.
In this competition 48 judges who were lecturers and legal practicioners such as lawyers from Indonesia and other countries were presented.
The teams managed to get into the semis and the final which was held on Sunday (10/2) were the teams from University of Indonesia (UI), Parahyangan University (Unpar), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), and Pelita Harapan University (UPH) who then fought for the Best Team Award.
The finals, which was attended by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Jimly Asshiddiqie, S.H. and the Founder of ISIL, Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana, S.H., LLM., PhD. and the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court, Janedjri M. Gaffar, finally put the team from UI and the team from Unpar in opposing sides. Meanwhile in the closing ceremony event, UI team was announced to be the first winner and deserved the Mochtar Kusuma-Atmaja Award.
