Chief of Constitution Court (MK) Prof. Dr. Jimly Asshidiqqie, S.H. accompanied by General Secretary of Constitution Court, Janedjri M. Gaffar officially opened the Coordination Meeting between The Constitution Court and Constitution Study Centers in Indonesia. The Coordinating Meeting between the Constitution Court and Constitution Study Centers in Indonesia taking place at ASEAN Room, The Sultan Hotel, Jakarta (12/12/2007).

On the opening ceremony, Jimly pointed out that the two-day event (12^th-13^th December 2007) was aimed at improving the cooperation between The Constitution Court and Constitution Study Centers (PKK) in Indonesia. At the same occasion, Jimly explained that Indonesia was lack of institutional degree in state organization and in civil society, moreover the institutional degree in business world was still weak, this was proven by the decision making process was taken from someone’s policy and not by institutional system, this was not rule of law mechanism. Therefore, according to Jimly, by having this forum, the Constitution Study Center could help implement the right institutional process and evenly distributed in all organizations throughout Indonesia.

Related to the question asked by CSC of Udayana University, Bali represented by Gede Yuse about the translation of The 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945) into Balinese Language, Jimly stated that the translation of The Constitution into local languages had a strategic meaning, referring to Article 32 Paragraph 2 1945 Constitution which stated; “The State shall respect and preserve local languages as national cultural treasures”. So there was indeed our constitutional responsibility to preserve local languages and not to ignore them as local wisdom and we should not be afraid that the Unitary State Republic of Indonesia would be threatened if the local languages developed.

Lastly Jimly emphasized, in order to manage Indonesia, as citizens we had to think wisely, smartly, and full of wit because the diversity in Indonesia especially the local languages were cultural treasures that should be preserved and protected. Therefore, through the cooperation with universities, especially CSC, Jimly hoped that would be the interface, where the Coordination Meeting could become the structure between the State and the civil society and also the structure between the State and the market.
