A group of
100 students accompanied by
some lecturers of
Yogyakarta National University, Faculty of Social and Political Science, Department of Civics and Law came to
Constitutional Court building this afternoon, 16 January 2007 in the purpose of
on-job training. The group was met by Justice Assistant, Fritz Edward Siregar, S.H., L.LM and Head of Subsection of Case Administration, Muhidin, S.H.,Hum.
In that occasion, Fritz explained that the main duty of Constitutional Court is to guarantee the implementation of democratization system in the frame of balancing the role or interplay among legislative, executive and judiciary power. This matter is in the frame of anticipating the abuse of power by one of the power branches against the others.
Moreover, Fritz explained that the other Constitutional Court duty is to protect each citizen from the abuse of power by state institution which harm their fundamental rights which are guaranteed by the Constitution.
Responding one of the studentâs questions, Muhidin explained that there are some Constitutional Court Verdicts which have abrogated the whole substances of Laws. Those Laws are for example: Law Number 16/2003 on Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2/2002 on Terrorism in relation to Bali Bombing; Law Number 20/2002 on Electricity; Law Number 45/1999 which has been amended with Law Number 5/2000 on Formation of Central Irian Jaya, West Irian Jaya Province; Law Number 27/2004 on The Truth and Reconciliation Comission.
