JAKARTA, MKRI - The  Court (MK) welcomed a visit from the Indonesia Law Debating Society (ILDS) Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia on Thursday (11/7/2024). The visit was welcomed by Senior Expert Legal Analyst MK, Syamsudin Noer.

Syamsudin Noer, who is familiarly called Sam, said that Article 24 paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution states that judicial power in Indonesia is exercised by the Supreme Court (MA) together with the courts below it (general, religious, military and state administrative courts), as well as by MK. One of the main functions of the Court is to review laws against the constitution, in accordance with the authority stipulated in the 1945 Constitution. Other powers include resolving disputes over the authority of state institutions, dissolving political parties, and resolving disputes over general election results.

Sam also mentioned on the Court's obligation, namely to provide a decision based on the DPR's opinion regarding alleged violations by the President or Vice President (impeachment). Even though the Court has never carried out this obligation, this task is an important mandate in the constitution.

Furthermore, Sam also discussed the code of ethics that every constitutional justice must adhere to. The Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Constitutional Justices are moral guidelines that must be adhered to by every justice, both in carrying out their duties and in social interactions, in order to maintain the honor and integrity of the constitutional judiciary institution.

The principles in the code of ethics and conducts of constitutional justices in Indonesia include independence, impartiality, integrity, appropriateness and politeness, equality, skill and prudence, as well as values ​​that live in Indonesian society, such as wise and wisdom.
