JAKARTA (MKRI) — 150 students of the Constitutional Law and Sharia Faculty of the K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid State Islamic University (UIN Gus Dur) of Pekalongan and their accompanying lecturers visited the Constitutional Court (MK) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
They were welcomed by expert assistant to constitutional justice, Intan Permata Putri. Intan introduced students to get acquainted with the role and function of the Court. Starting her presentation, Intan explained the legal basis for the formation of the Court along with the duties and functions of the Court as a constitutional judiciary institution as referred to in Article 24C paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution.
In addition, Intan discussed how the Court adjudicated violation in obtaining final results from the implementation of general elections and regional head elections. Intan explained, if in the election process held by the General Election Commission (KPU) it is proven that there is violation, then the Court can declare an interlocutory decision. In other words, the Court can order a recapitulation of votes directly in front of the constitutional justices or it can also order the KPU to carry out a recapitulation with its staff. The Court can even order election organizers to carry out a re-vote.
Intan revealed that in 2024 the Court was busy with handling disputes over the results of the general election (PHPU) for president and vice president, as well as PHPU for legislative members. Currently, the Court is preparing to face a dispute over the results of the regional head election (PHP Kada).
After listening to the presentation, the students took a tour to the Constitutional History Center (Puskon) of the Court. Puskon is an educational instrument that collected the dynamics of the history of the constitution and the Court, presented through a combination of information, art and technology. Puskon is located on the 5th and 6th floors of Building 1 of the Court with an area of 1,462 m2 which is divided into eight zones. The 5th floor starts from the Pre-Independence zone to the 1945 Constitution Amendment zone, while the 6th floor is the Constitutional Court zone.
