PRESIDENT Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, stated that the process and mechanism to amend the Constitution still had to go through the People s Deliberative Assembly as mandated by the Constitution itself.

"The most important thing is that if it has to end in amending the Constitution, then the process and mechanism still have to go through the People s Deliberative Assembly, as mandated by our constitution," said President Yudhoyono, at the Parliament’s Building, Jakarta, Friday (22/08)

According to the President, related to the growing discourse on Constitutional amendment, in accordance to the information delivered by the Government last year, every idea to change the basic Constitution we followed, had to be brought to a broad public arena before being processed by a mechanism regulated by the Constitution.

President admitted that in the amendment idea, there was an opinion saying that amendment thing is fully under the authority of the Higher Parliament; however there were some opinions believing that in the amendment of the Constitution, it was the right of every citizen to take part in thinking about that idea.

Yudhoyono stated that in the last year, in his capacity as the Head of State, he had received some substantial inputs concerning commission or committee that needed to be formed to study our constitutional system comprehensively.(Ant)
